  • Failure of new Trane air handler unity

Replaced two older Trane units that only had 5 year warrenties. Had numerous problems with the units over the 10 years we had them. Decided to replace them. Went to Lowes and saw the Trane display. Spoke to the sales clerk. I really did not want Trane due to the problems we had but after speaking with the sales person, he acknowledged that Trane did have problems with their units but had now extended their warranties to 10 years. The units we now have are less then one year old and the blower on the air handler has failed. We were advised by Trane that they do not stock this part and... More...

  • Broken evaporator coolent coil

In 2012 I purchased a Trane HeatPump # GAM5AOB36M315AA. I had been a long time customer of Home Deport and I went through them to find a reputable dealer ( I thought) A sales man from Florida Home sold me on the "wonderful " Trane Heat Pump which he assured me was the best on the market, and would be backed by Home Depot if anything went wrong. Silly Me. This hot summer in Florida the evaporator coil on the heat pump sprung a lead. I see from the reviews that this is not an uncommon occurrence. The problem becomes personal as the part is on back order ( I wonder why as it... More...

  • Trane Broken Fan

We purchased a brand new Trane in 2008 because we heard it was the best. This is 2014 and the unit is six years old. We are in the process of replacing the fan for the 4th time. I thought maybe we got a lemon. But, by these other reviews it looks like others are having the same problems. Could there be a manufacturer defect causing the fan to go out so often? More...

  • Trane Air Conditioning Unit

I bought a complete Trane Heating and Air Conditioning System in 2006. The Condenser Coil in the Air Conditioning unit was guaranteed for 10 years. It began leaking last year but the nature of the leak wasn't discovered until this year. Trane ran out of these parts in May. They say they will begin making them again in July. I have no promised delivery date. No warrantee is worth anything if the company is unable to provide the parts. Meanwhile my family has been suffering without any air conditioning and it appears that we won't have any for at least most of this summer. Not only... More...

  • Trane broken A/C

I purchased a new Trane Unit in 2008. Over the weekend it stopped working. Homer Nine came out immediately to look at it and determined the fan and coils (not sure what else is wrong with the unit) were not working. Good news -- still under warranty. Bad news -- parts are back ordered. Really!! Why does Trane not carry sufficient inventory levels for seasonal demand. I have asthma and I also have 3 Shetland sheepdogs, one age 12 and cannot tolerate heat and humidity. The temperature in my house has reached 81 degrees. This is a poorly constructed unit and the company is one of the... More...

  • more problems

Purchased a Trane 16 months ago. We had our other system, not a Trane, for 15 years with no problems. Within 12 months we had an Oder in the house, coals had to be changed. Now the unit stopped putting out cold air due to an expansion valve problem which will cost about $700 in labor and have to wait in 90 degree weather a week for the part. Based on the advertisements, I expected a better product. I feel mislead. I can't afford a money pit, XL13. More...

She and I and others spent countless hours trying to contact Trane but came up empty handed trying to get contact information for customer service. I wouldn't recomend a Trane product to my worse enemy. It is pretty clear all they care about is selling a product that fails and not providing customers with quality service that keeps people coming back for more. They are about the quick sale, 1 time get the money and run in my opinion. More...

  • Where is our 10yr Warranty

We were told by the salesperson we were getting a 10yr labor warranty and it was listed with the 10/12yr parts warranty on the sales order. We verified with the salesperson that the warranties were good with all Trane dealers and were told they were. After a nightmare install and one summer of it working, the next two summers we have spent more than $2000.00 in labor and Puron to keep the system going. The beginning of the second summer we were told it was an expansion valve and they added 2.3 lbs of puron and then the next summer it was a bad coil that was replace and over 7 lbs of... More...

My wife and I spent $16K for this Trane unit and even added a couple returns to make it more efficient. The installers in Indianapolis look at you like you are dumb when you ask them how they go about sizing one for your home. Don't ask, do I have enough vents, returns or is my return large enough. Don't talk CFMs as they don't even carry a CFM/air flow meter. Don't ask if two 8 inch feeds is enough for a certain room or how large the return box should be in the attic for all the 8 and 10 inch feeds running back to it. • Trane Air Handler is Defective and They Should Admit

This company needs to do something fast because I am growing tired of spending hundreds of dollars on a 6000 dollar system that continues to have defects. I just finished paying off my Trane complete system and have had several service calls to my house because of break down. I am sorry that I don't know more about this complicated system so I could determine what's going on. My Trane was purchased in 2009. I truly believe there is something wrong with it right now because it keeps frosting and the other evening It would not heat the house over 69 degrees even though I had... More...

Wanted to replace an older AC with a Trane system but had some questions. Tried numerous times to contact Trane by chat (no phone number available). Never got connected to a live agent (are there any?). One question posed by e-mail was answered one week later with "Contact your qualified Trane dealer" My questions: what size unit does Trane recommend (3 different "qualified dealers" recommended 3 different sizes) - actual replacement unit was too large, and now has to be replaced for the second time in 2 months.Due to its inablility to remove moisture from the air we now... • Beware of the Trane!

I bought a Trane A/C (XL14i) in 2007 to replace an older unit. I went with Trane because of all the hype, thinking I was going to get a good quality, reliable system. Not so. This system has failed every summer since the install. Fortunately I bought an extended warranty, which expired this summer. I asked Trane if I could PURCHASE another year or two warranty...I asked for nothing free, was willing to pay. They said no. Not just no but H... no. I gathered from this that Trane doesn't even have enough faith in their systems to sell me additional warranty. Oh, and during the warranty... More...

  • TRANE A/C Faulty FAN MOTOR Replaced just before 5 yr warranty

During the hottest time of year in St. Louis and with a Trane A/C that was 1 month from being 5 years old, the A/C quit working. Paid the $99 after hour service charge, the $100 labor for capacitor replacement ( which didn't fix it ) and then waited Friday - Monday until they could get the fan motor part delivered from Kansas City, MO. Not a great experience whatsoever. Then paid $200 labor to replace the fan motor. If this would have happened 1 month later, just into 5 years old on the unit, the fan motor labor would have cost over $1100. So it's not that hard to stop a... More...

Your unit was sold to us by one of your local authorized dealers boasting it to be the Cadillac of HVAC systems. We had a 1996 Rheem system that was defective when we bought our home. We replaced the system, all duct work, and added a Trane Clean Effects whole house air cleaner for good measure as we are in the worst area in the country for allergy problems. The system was installed in 2007 and within 2 months the circuit board was fried. It was replaced and has been replaced again every year since, except for 2011. • Crooks Represent Trane

My complaint is on the installer of this Trane system AND TRANE's "Contact Us" on their website. As far as I can tell, the system itself is functioning properly. My beef with Trane is that they allow such crooks to represent their product. Many years ago we used Coles Comfort from Locust, NC while living in SailView and all appeared honest and forthright. After a few more years, we hired them to put a new system in my retired father's house in Denver, NC. We purchased a brand new Trane unit in July of 2010. A year and half later, the a/c is not blowing cold air. I contacted one of our local air conditioning companies to come out and look at what was going on. They informed me that there was a manufacture defect and the coil had a hole in it and was leaking freon. He informed me that the coil would be covered under Trane's warranty, but I would have to pay for the installation and the freon. I got them to get me an estimate and it was going to be $775. Yep.. In October 1999, I purchased a new Trane furnace, air conditioner, and electronic air cleaner, Model # TFE245A9FRO. The EAC has a broken ionizing wire, that renders the unit totally inoperable. Trane no longer supplies the wires. Trane does supply a kit that includes the wires, but the kit costs $1450, which is $100 more than a new EAC! Below is a letter I sent to Trane back in '07. Another couple of years have passed and now I am really tired of this product. You can't clean the collection cells back to their original white color so how effective can they be if they are stained and dirty? Vacuuming doesn't work. Rinsing doesn't work and you can't even use mild soap like Seventh Generation or Dr. Bronners. I use a styrofoam packing peanut to clean the field charger electrodes. Purchased unit in 2003 and every two years a MAJOR problem. Thank God we had an extended warranty which covered the very expensive costs but left us without a/c three times and without heat twice in the winter while we waited for parts. The evaporator had to be totally replaced in 2009 and again in 2011 due to its leaking refrigerant. Now that the warranty is expired, we just paid $300 out of pocket for a seized condenser fan motor and our service man advised us we should be looking to get a new unit. I sent an e-mail to customer service twice before anyone responded and then they asked me to call them. When I called customer service rep, Ms. Ebony, basically said "sorry Charlie we have no control of how long your system will operate correctly". My neighbors have Carrier systems purchased around the same time as mine and other than worn out belts needing to be replaced, neither one has had the amount of issues we have had. Their claims of reliability and quality products is just false advertising. Learn from our experience ...DO NOT BUY A TRANE PRODUCT

I have a Trane XL14i that replaced a Lennox system which lasted exactly 10 years before the evaporator coil inside sprung a leak. I decided that based on the age that I would replace the entire system. The new system is the Trane. After the first year the variable speed motor board failed and it and the motor was replaced. Currently year 6, the outdoor condenser has stopped working. First it would not start, then a hard start kit was installed and it ran for 4 days and now will not do anything except trip the main circuit breaker. I am stuck on what to do. Right now August 9, 2013 I have no air conditioning waiting on a direction from the HVAC company and Trane. This company needs a wake up call on the quality of their products.

I had an aging but still working after 22 years, Trane gas/electric outdoor package last year.
The local company here in Raleigh NC did a half assed job of replacing it, (with a 2.5 ton Trane XL14c and didn't put rubber vibration pads under it or repair the broken out bricks in my crawl space or replace the insulation or install a new drain pipe. Then the hot weather hit us in mid 2012 and guess what, it's 83F in my house. To cut a long story short they did a load calculation from pland obtained in the Net and they used the wrong plans ........... and sized the unit incorrectly at 2.5 tons when later I discover after an on site load calc. that it needs a 3.5 ton unit.
The company that did this work are RS mechanical evantually agreed to swap the unit out for the correct one but then tell me they need to do extensive duct and electrical modifications to suit the larger unit and of course hit me with a large differential price for it. Now I don't mind paying the difference in the price of the upgrade unit from 2.5 to 3.5 (less than $400 retail) but he's asking for close to a grand to do it saying this is the difference in the original 2.5 estimate to what they would have charged for a 3.5.
I figure that we agreed a price for the exchange from the old to the new and if they ferked up on the sizing it's theri problem, not mine as they selected the unit size, not me.
Anyways, my electric bill for July 2012 was 80% more than usual for the same month last year as the 2.5 ton was running 14 hours a day none stop because it was too small.
Point I'm trying to get over here is that the original 22 year old Trane was a 2.5 ton unit and a Seer 10 which worked fine in even the hottest 100+ days and was still working the day it was removed but replaced only for a safety issue (old gas heat). So it seems Trane's newer high efficiency package units are not as efficient as they want you to believe are they if it needs a 3.5 tone to do what a 2.5 ton used to do.

In October of 2004 we had a Trane furnace and air conditioner installed for $10K. We chose the high efficiency units. We enjoyed a air conditioned house for the season of 2005. In 2006 we turned our air on and the unit did tripped our circuit breaker. Trane installed a booster and we continued to have the same problem. Later they told us the compressor was bad and Stevenson's (our dealer) said the compressor was under warranty, but their service was not. It would cost more than $1,000 to install another compressor. After many calls to Stevenson's and Trane we agreed to pay 1/2 of the installation charge. July 28th of 2010 we had the compressor replaced and enjoyed air conditioning for the remainder of our Ohio air conditioning season. This year (2012) our air conditioning unit would not cool. We have been told after a $89 service call we need the freon replaced due to a leak in a coil. Another $1200 charge to have the coil replaced and the freon. We feel that we have a black hole sitting on the side of our house that just sucks our money. Our son had to purchase a air conditioning system for his house this year and did not purchase a Trane or use Stevenson's as his dealer.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY !!!!! It's too late for us! We had an addition put on our 55 year old home and had to get a bigger heating and A/C unit. The existing YORK was over 20 years old and NEVER failed us! But we had to go bigger; dealers convinced us to buy TRANE! A huge regret for this family. The unit was installed 10/2/08. On 9/23/11 the A/C stopped working (on a delightful hot humid night). 9/24 (Sat) we had the installer diagnose the problem. He said "the board is bad and we don't have them in stock", see ya Monday. We had 15 people coming for a celebration on Sunday. Wonderful. MOnday it was fixed. The variable speed motor control, 60PH motor and Ignition Control kit all needed to be replaced. $1757 worth of parts replaced under warranty. The labor was $340...not covered. The inconvenience and embarrassment of hosting a party (with people in dresses, suits and ties) without A/C in heat and humidity is priceless. I asked them to cover the cost of labor and I received a generic response indicating it could have been the installer, customer use or circumstances beyond thier control. So folks...save your money! Buy YORK! or something other than Trane. becasue you sure aren't buying quality!!! Less than 3 years and the product breaks! Ridiculous!

When it is time to looking for a new A/C unit, I will look pass the TRANE systems. This is my experience; I have a 3.5 ton 14 seer unit, one of their best at the time of purchase.
I replaced my old 20 year TRANE with a new TRANE (Junk). I had this system for 3 years 6 months , had to replace the blower fan for a labor coast of $ 500.00. Now my cooling coil has a leak , replacement labor coast $ 600.00 and was told my compositor ($) was at 88% and TRANE will not replace any part until it fail completely . I call the TRANE office asking for help. I explain that this unit get regular maintenance by licensed contractors. The help I got from TRANE was no help!
This will be my last TRANE after searching the internet, I have found that i am not the only one with junk.
